Olive School pupils are anti-bullying superheroes!

Our pupils have proved they are anti-bullying superheroes, while raising over £170 for Children In Need.

As national Anti-Bullying Week coincided with our annual Children In Need fundraising, The Olive School pupils donned their superhero costumes to show their strength and kick bullying out of our school!

During the week, we also welcomed friends from our twin school St Joseph’s in Hoghton. After taking part in assemblies exploring themes around bullying, Year 1 pupils from the two schools worked together on a joint Anti-Bullying Charter. Considering how bullying affects the victim, they used their ideas to compile their Anti-Bullying Charter, which contained information on different forms of bullying and what to do if you are being bullied.

Our two schools have been twinned since the last academic year, coming together termly for learning activities and social events. Friendships have developed between the pupils and teaching staff too, as we share valuable learning experiences.

Majid Ditta, our Principal, said, “This year’s Anti-Bullying Week aimed to highlight tolerance with its ‘All Different, All Equal’ message. Using the week to host another visit from our friends at St Joseph’s allowed us to continue the good work we’ve begun with them to help our pupils build friendships with people from different backgrounds.

“Through our Anti-Bullying Week activities, our young pupils considered how we can all help and support one another. It made perfect sense for us to link our anti-bullying activities with our non-uniform day to raise money for Children In Need, with pupils and staff alike donning their superhero costumes. We’ve committed to using our superhuman powers to be kind to one another and in the process have raised over £170 for Children In Need. What a fantastic week!”
